About us

The Canadian Bandurist Capella is a choral group which combines the sound of a male chorus with the unique orchestral accompaniment of the multi-stringed Ukrainian Bandura.  The Bandura has the sound somewhat reminiscent of a harp played in combination with a clavichord.  The concert Bandura has (some) 65 strings tuned chromatically through a range of five octaves.

The Canadian Bandurist Capella has grown to become a considerable force within the Ukrainian Community in Ontario. It unites the talents of some 50 singers and instrumentalists who together produce a sonorous choral blend accompanied by a rich orchestral accompaniment. The repertoire has grown to encompass not only arrangements of epic historic songs, but also sacred music and modern compositions.

The Capella has performed throughout Upper Canada and is now continuing to expand its performances to other regions. The ensemble completed recording its first CD in February 2004 and  is now working on compiling the next.

The direction of the Canadian Bandurist Capella is made up of a team with Merited Artist of Ukraine - Victor Mishalow (Artistic director), Andrii Dmytrovych (Choir Master) Yurij Petlura (Concert Master) and Steve Dacko (President).

The Canadian Bandurist Capella is available to provide public performances and these can be arranged by contacting Steve Dacko banduristy@canada.com or by phone 905-820-1220.
